‘Jinx' is a Steamy BL Manhwa with a Beautiful Healing Arc
Created by Mingwa, Jinx has become a controversial manhwa in the BL community due to the harsh personality of Joo Jaekyung and how he treats Kim Dan, his physical therapist who has a sick family member and is struggling to make ends meet.
Every night before his wrestling match, Jaekyung would spend his time having sex with Kim Dan as a ritual for winning.
For the BL fans that have stuck around to keep up with Jinx, they hoped to see Jaekyung eventually reach a satisfying character arc where he realizes his feelings for Kim Dan. When the series eventually wrapped up, many were left feeling lukewarm about the rushed ending and how Jaekyung didn't suffer as much when it came to rekindling his relationship with Kim Dan.
The most interesting relationship dynamic that I have found in BL recently is when the male lead uses the main protagonist for their own gain and then they both develop feelings for one another despite their rough beginnings.
When done right, this type of dynamic can leave plenty of room for realistic growth for both characters, but I can see where manhwa like Jinx can make abusive relationships normalized where it becomes desensitizing.
However, when the main protagonist finds his power and no longer submits for the male lead’s gain, it can also showcase that sovereignty is never really lost.
For Joo Jaekyung in particular, coming from a tough background where he didn't have a loving household, it's beautiful to see him slowly heal and build the courage to let his cold walls collapse.
